Amenhotep IV, also known as Akhenaten, was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who reigned during the 18th dynasty. He is best known for his religious reforms, particularly his promotion of the worship of the sun god Aten as the supreme deity. Akhenaten moved the capital to a new city, Akhetaten (modern-day Amarna), and sought to establish a monotheistic religion centered on Aten. His reign had a significant impact on Egyptian art and culture, as evidenced by the distinctive artistic style known as the "Amarna style." Akhenaten's religious reforms were later reversed by his successors, and his memory was largely erased from history until modern times.
