Charles Martel
Charles Martel was a Frankish statesman and military leader who lived in the 8th century. He is best known for his victory at the Battle of Tours in 732, where he successfully halted the advance of the Islamic Umayyad Caliphate into Western Europe. This victory is often seen as a pivotal moment in European history, as it prevented the spread of Islam into the region.
Charles Martel is also credited with laying the foundation for the Carolingian Empire, which was later expanded by his grandson,
Charlemagne. His leadership and military prowess earned him the nickname "The Hammer" (Martel in French), and he is remembered as a key figure in the defense of Christian Europe during the early medieval period.
