Charles Edward Stuart, also known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, was a member of the exiled House of Stuart and a claimant to the British throne. He was born in 1720 and was the grandson of King James II of England. Charles Edward Stuart is best known for his role in the Jacobite uprising of 1745, during which he attempted to regain the British throne for the Stuarts. His campaign culminated in the Battle of Culloden in 1746, where he suffered a decisive defeat. After the uprising, he spent several years in hiding and eventually fled to France.
