Charles I was the king of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1625 until his execution in 1649. He was known for his belief in the divine right of kings, which led to conflicts with Parliament and ultimately to the English Civil War. Charles I's reign was marked by political and religious tensions, and his refusal to compromise with Parliament ultimately led to his downfall. He was the only English monarch to be tried and executed for treason.
